Adam Karch solo (Québec)

This guitarist and singer from Quebec’s Acadian country has grown into his own. His early days as a young rock-blues-swing rebel in the early 90’s have given way to an accomplished musician. After sharing the stage with Coco Montoya and Colin James, he launched a first CD, Crossroad Diaries, followed by the acoustic Cotton Fields.

Anders Osborne (États-Unis/USA)

The Louisiana guitarist and singer of Swedish origin returns to Tremblant after an acclaimed performance with the Voices of the Wetlands last year. Osborne brilliantly moves from soul-inflected acoustic to electric blues, as he’s shown us on American Patchwork, his latest release. He’s composed great songs for Keb Mo’, Jonny Lang and Tim McGraw, but now performs for us as a trio. Authentic and impactful.

The brilliant Montreal harmonica player has a masterful handle on post-war Chicago Blues. Inspired by his heroes Little Walter, Big Walter Horton and George Harmonica Smith, Bharath Rajakumar and his three cronies seem to have just stepped off of a time machine, and their latest album Tsunami is proof positive.

Bob Harrisson (Québec)

Now in his 60’s, Bob Harrisson happily forges on his long and successful career path. First known as the drummer of the rock band Offenbach, he went on to create the Bob Harrisson Blues Band at the end of the 80’s, made us discover his talent as a crooner, started the Blues Sessions on Montreal’s St-Denis Street and became Quebec’s Blues King. He’ll be writing a new chapter with his band at Tremblant.

Bob Walsh ( Québec )

He is one of Canada’s leading voices of the blues and he’s back at the Festival with six musicians and a new CD. Winner of a Félix and nominated for multiple Maple Blues Awards, Walsh delivers his best songs, including off his latest and 9th album, Inside I Am All Blue, under the musical direction of Jean-Fernand Girard.

David Gogo (Colombie-Britannique/BC)

This veteran guitarist from British Columbia recently released Soul Bender, a gem of an album full of juicy riffs, fresh original compositions and genius covers of songs by Michael Jackson, Procol Harum and Elmore James. In addition to a show with his own band, Gogo will also be joining fellow guitarists for the Acoustic Summit.

He is a Swiss-German guitarist whose parents live in Victoriaville, Quebec and whose band plays blues-rock. Left Line, Anderhub’s first, self-produced album, was recorded with Quebec idol Steve Hill. Joining him on stage will be Vancouver-native Layla Zoe.

Gary Allegretto (États-Unis/USA)

This world-class harmonica player from Los Angeles has received widespread acclaim around the globe with through his music. But perhaps even more remarkable is the impact of his international humanitarian work with kids, recently recognized by the Blues Foundation's prestigious 2011 Keeping The Blues Alive Award. Gary will be giving us duo performances with guitar ace Ian Espinoza. He’ll also host a special kid’s workshop – culminating with the youngsters proudly joining him on stage.

Guitar Explosion (Canada)

Sparks will fly when guitarist Paul Deslauriers teams up once again with fellow guitarist Steve Strongman in a double-bill that will pit one guitar against the other. Backing them will be Deslauriers’ rhythm section, with Greg Morency on bass and Sam Harrisson on drums. A bluesy evening that’s sure to hold a few surprises!


 

Harmonikids

Gary Allegretto will be providing a very special harmonica workshop to local children who will then perform at the festival on Sunday. Gary is the founder and director of Harmonikids, a nonprofit humanitarian organization that provides music therapy with harmonicas and lessons to special needs children internationally. He has provided aid to special needs children - from the earthquake devastated Port Au Prince, Haiti, to the tsunami refugee camps of North Sumatra, Indonesia to the Katrina evacuee trailer villages of Louisiana and hundreds of points in between.

Harrison Kennedy (Ontario)

A finalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and a Juno nominee, this Hamilton, Ontario guitarist was a member of the Detroit soul band Chairman of the Board. Kennedy’s distinctively smooth and rich voice and impressive range allow him to move effortlessly between a number of blues-rooted styles.

Henri Breton (Québec)

Lou Simon’s ex-guitarist has been a long collaborator of Rick. L. Blues, with whom he’s made regular appearances at Quebec’s blues festivals as well as two performances at France’s Blues-sur-Seine. From blues-rock to acoustic blues, Breton draws the best from each style, as heard on his CD called Sources.

Hommage à Robert Johnson

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Robert Johnson, the mythical bluesman who died in 1938 at the age of 27. A very special evening is in store: David Gogo, Paul Deslauriers, Steve Strongman and Jack de Keyzer will be conjuring up the spirits by performing some of Johnson’s 29 songs, considered by many experts as the single body of work that revolutionized the blues. You’ll find yourself saying: “He’s the one who wrote that?” Yes, he’s the one.

Isabelle Boulay is a singer that has marked an entire generation by first winning the hearts of Quebeckers and then becoming hugely successful in Europe. She has also charmed many major artists who have invited her to share in their spotlight, including Johnny Hallyday, Charles Aznavour, Francis Cabrel, Serge Reggiani and many others.

The legendary Toronto guitarist won the 2010 Juno for Best Blues Album with The Corktown Sessions as well as three Maple Blues Award nominations this year. James Harman et MonkeyJunk (Ontario)

James Harman, a harmonica player originally from Alabama, is considered to be one of the pillars of the California West Coast Blues sound, along with the likes of Rod Piazza, William Clarke and company. Since the start of his career in 1964 at the age of 18, he’s won 19 W.C. Handy Awards, recorded 30 albums and performed in over 25 countries. Ten Years After (Royaume-Uni/United Kingdom)

The legendary British band makes a first stop at Tremblant led by the spirited Joe Gooch, who replaced the band’s founder Alvin Lee in 2002. Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for their memorable 1969 Woodstock performance of “I’m Going Home”, the four-piece blues-rock band is still going strong.

The Bootleggers (Québec)

A new Laurentians band has seen the light of day in Ste-Agathe. Brian Smith, the vocalist and bassist for Nanette Workman, got together with piano player Mario Cadotte, drummer Alain Boyer and guitarist Lauren Bélec with promising results. Covers such as Hound Dog and God Bless The Child are performed with verve and mixed with a few originals. A first CD is in the works!

The Brooks Family Blues Dynasty (États-Unis)

Dad Lonnie Brooks, a recent inductee into the Blues Hall of Fame, will be sharing the stage with his two sons, Ronnie and Wayne – three very successful careers, and three high-tension guitars passing the Chicago blues torch from one generation to the next. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band (États-Unis/USA)

Founded in 1977 in New Orleans, the band includes a seven-piece brass section and a rhythm section. They are a true Louisiana institution, as they’ve revitalized the traditional brass band by adding a refreshing touch of funk, soul and local flavour. In addition to collaborations with Norah Jones, Dave Matthews and David Bowie, the DDBB can be heard on an HBO series called Tremé. Pioneers.

The Twisters (Colombie-Britannique/BC)

This four-piece jump swing blues band from BC took home last year’s Maple Blues Award for Bassist of the Year (Keith Picot). With a new CD called Come Out Swinging in their suitcases, they’ll be making a mark at the festival with an outdoor concert, a few sets in a bar and a back-up performance for piano player Kenny Blues Boss Wayne.

Thom Swift (Nouvelle-Écosse/Nova Scotia)

The guitarist and singer of Maritimes band Hot Toddy is also a solo recording artist with two albums to date, including the recent, critically-acclaimed Blue Sky Day. Not only does he have a beautiful baritone voice and flawless guitar technique, he is considered among Canada’s top singer/songwriters, with three nominations at this year’s East Coast Music Awards.

Detroit’s Queen of the Blues finally comes to Tremblant! The woman has made the cover of Living Blues magazine, her song Cry was heard on The Sopranos on HBO, she’s shared the stage with Ray Charles, Etta James, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt, and she’s also lent her voice to a number of ads. We’re rolling out the red carpet for this royal visit!

Wang Dang Doodle (Québec)

For over 20 years, this four-piece band from Montreal led by guitarist Marc Parent has been a mainstay of Quebec’s stages with a driving blues, rock and funk repertoire. From Stevie Ray Vaughan to James Brown, there’s never a dull moment. Wang Dang Doodle will also be the house band for the traditional Sunday jam that will close out the festival.

Wayne Baker Brooks (États-Unis/USA)

Born and raised in Chicago in a family that made its living from the blues, the son of Lonnie Brooks started his own band in 1997. He learned the ropes from a young age as he was no stranger to Chess Studios and the popular Checkerboard Lounge where he would see Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and, of course, his own father perform. With his hit “Something’s Going Down”, this bold guitarist gives the blues a shot of modern-day rock, soul and hip-hop.

Zachary Richard avec artiste invitée / with guest artist Isabelle Boulay

Louisiana’s most famous flag bearer in Quebec has again accepted to be the spokesperson of the 18th annual Tremblant International Blues Festival.

This is the second year running that he honours the Festival in this capacity. The celebrated artist who gave us Cap Enragé, Au bord du Lac Bijou and Jean le batailleur will be turning 60 in September, and he has built a rich and bountiful musical heritage over the years. From his beginnings as an accordion player in Lafayette, Richard has grown to become one of America’s most influential roots artists, both in English and in French.

Through his words and his music, he tells the compelling story of his Cajun homeland with eloquence and passion.
